Behind the scenes

Here are a few pictures from behind the scenes of our filming..This was taken in Picadilly Gardens whilst we were filming the trams however we have not used this particular shot in our media product.
This is a shot in the character's bedroom an this is a shot of the bills on her bed which indicates the great level of debt she is in.

This is a shot of the character as she awakes from her dream and comes back to reality. The character looks shocked and distressed. She then falls onto the bed.

Storyboard

This was a very basic and simple storyboard and consisted of our initial ideas. However during the film we included a few more shots and included more ideas such as the shot with the performer and the shot with the manchester wheel.

Audience and Genre

We have chose a rating of PG as this film may contain material that parents might not like for their younger children to view. Also ‘Confession of a shopaholic’ is a similar genre to our film and was rated PG.

'In your dreams' is mainly targeted at teenage girls and is based around a romantic comedy. The movie is based around a woman's struggle as she tries to get out of debt and find a job in an attempt to sort her life out and get rid of her shopping addiction. She also falls in love during her struggle and the male character supports her financially and emotionally.

This is Jennifer Smith who is our typical target for this movie and this film would greatly appeal to her and her friends. She is 18 years old and lives in Ealing, London. She is currently studying at a sixth form college and has plans to attend university to study English. She is in intelligent young girl who also loves fashion and designer clothes. Being an only child her parents have given her all their attention, love and affection. Her favourite stores are Topshop, Selfridge's and Harvey Nichols. She attends the cinema regularly with her friends and loves chick flicks like St Trinians, Bratz, Confessions of a Shopaholic and 27 Dresses.

Ideas for the title of our film

We have decided the title of our film is 'In your dreams.'
We have chosen this name because the first section of our opening sequence is based around the female character dreaming, furthermore the character fantasizes that she is able to buy such extravagant and expensive clothes when in reality she is in debt due to her addiction to shopping.

Resume

The audience will initially see a varied number of shots including close ups and wide/establishing shots of shop windows such as Louis Vuitton and Harvey Nichols and the different places in town including Printworks and Piccadilly Gardens. In the background there is upbeat music playing throughout the first section. There is then a low angle shot of the girl coming out of a black taxi. She is wearing a brown fashionable mac with a dress and trendy high heeled boots, she is also carrying a handbag. The female character is pretty and her hair and make up is immaculate. There is a long shot of the girl walking towards the camera and she is gazing into the shop windows. The girl then enters into a store and leaves with many bags. As she is walking out she smiles and waves at an entertainer who is outside the store. There is a wide shot of the girl walking down and the big wheel is in the background. She is smiling as she is pleased with the purchases she has bought. The next scene is in her bedroom. The female is looking at herself in the mirror as she admires the clothes and puts them against herself. She throws a few of the clothes onto the bed and then jumps onto the bed. The bed is littered with bags and clothes. There is a close up of her face as she closes her eyes for a moment. There is a blackout here. There is a close up of her face inside the bed and the character is then woken up suddenly to a knock on the door. We have deliberately messed up the protagonist's hair and make up and she is now in her night clothes to show that the character was dreaming. Her landlord is at the door knocking and shouts,'your rent is due!' There is then a wide shot of her bed and the audience can see that the bed is clustered with bills. The scene ends with a zoom out. We are going to insert the production company and title here. The production company is called 'Enchanted Productions' and the title is 'In your dreams.'

Location analysis

We filmed around town to convey the theme of shopping and here are a few shots we took of the locations.
This location is near St Ann's Square (Deansgate) and was where the majority of our film took place. St Ann's Square leads up to all the designer stores which was ideal for our theme. We chose this location over indoor shopping centres such as The Trafford Centre for example as this fits in with the Hollywood style we were aiming for.
Louis Vuitton is a huge brand and is associated with the luxurious life. Our opening sequence wanted to convey this so this shot is ideal for our media product.

Selfridge's is a well known brand all over the world and we certainly wanted to include this logo into our sequence as the store represents glamour and wealth.
This picture is an establishing shot of Manchester. We believe this is essential to our our opening sequence as it informs the audience of the location and fits in perfectly with our theme of shopping addiction as Manchester is known for its incredible designer shops and The Trafford Centre.

Analysis of costumes

For the main task we wanted the protagonist to be presented as being rich, modern and fashionable therefore we have chosen clothes that are in fashion at the moment and are flattering for the character. Also the character is very self conscious and vain so the character is going to be pretty with a lot of make up and her hair done perfectly. Our protagonist, Sana, plays a young adult that has grown up with a desire to spend well beyond her means.

Analysis of 'Confessions Of A Shopaholic'

The opening sequence begins with an aerial tracking shot of girls trying on shoes; this connotes the glamour of the fashion world. There is also a juxtaposition of beautiful shoes a
gainst plain and practical shoes. There is a wide shot of a young girl surrounded by older beautiful girls looking like ‘princesses.’ The child is in awe of the glamour around here and there is a close up of her face showing pleasure and happiness. There is a comedy element here too as the child thinks the credit cards are ‘magic cards.’ The end shot is a long shot of a fashionable woman walking down a street and there is non diagetic upbeat music. We particularly like the end shot and are considering using a similar scene in our main task.

Analysis of 'The Silence Of The Lambs'

In class we watched 'The Silence of the lambs' as an example of an opening sequence.

The 'Silence of the Lambs' has elements of crime and horror genres. In the opening scene an establishing shot is used to show the audience where the film is set. The location is in a forest and looks gloomy and scary which hints at the genre of the film which is a psychological horror. We then see the female protagonist Clarice starting an assault course by climbing up a hill using a rope.

Throughout this scene you see the female doing a challenging assault course, which suggests she is countering the typical gender stereotype of a female. She is also wearing casual clothes which again suggests she is not a typical female. Furthermore the incidental tense music denotes that the film is a thriller.

When Clarice is stood in the lift with many males, it again shows that she is not a typical female and it also suggests that she perhaps has a job that is dominated by men. She then enters the behavioral sciences lab, which connotes that the film is based around a psychological thriller and also hints that the female is very intelligent. Furthermore the display board covered in newspaper cuttings and photos of a distressing case stresses the idea that the film is about crime horror.
